SCEA to publish EyeToy: Groove in North America

February 25, 2004

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today that it plans on publishing EyeToy: Groove in North America in spring 2004. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment London Studio, EyeToy: Groove is the sequel to the highly successful EyeToy: Play, a game that makes use of the PlayStation 2 EyeToy USB camera instead of a Dual Shock 2 controller.

"We are pleased to announce the second title in the EyeToy family so soon after the highly successful EyeToy: Play launch," said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The interest and success of the EyeToy technology proves that consumers are looking for an active alternative to traditional forms of entertainment, and EyeToy: Groove is just another step in making the world of interactive entertainment a reality."

EyeToy: Groove will feature 28 licensed songs from artists such as Elvis, Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Jamiroquai, and Fatboy Slim. Of course, players will still be the stars in EyeToy: Groove, as the EyeToy USB camera will pick-up a person's movements and display them on his or her TV in real-time.

If playing solo, gamers may try out dance moves in One Player mode, or choose to just interact with on-screen special effects in the Chill Out Room. A multiplayer mode will be available as well, which can have two players take turns or dance at the same time to determine who has the best rhythm, reaction time and accuracy. Gamers can even dance cooperatively in the Team Sync mode.

The Video Message feature will make a return in EyeToy: Groove, which gives consumers the ability to record personal messages onto a memory card, so that it may be viewed later by a family member or friend, for example.

EyeToy: Groove will be available at an SRP of $49.99 with the EyeToy USB camera or $29.99 without.
