Release:
Fall 2004
Just when you were starting to recover from the disturbing images found in Silent Hill 3, Konami Digital Entertainment America has already unveiled the next installment in the Silent Hill series today, which is dubbed Silent Hill 4: The Room. Despite the silly subtitle, Silent Hill 4 promises to create an even more chilling atmosphere than its predecessor when it is released on the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and Xbox this fall.
Players will assume the role of Henry Townshend, a normal yet unlucky man who becomes trapped inside his own apartment (as you can see in some of the screenshots we posted, his front door has been locked off with chains). After much confusion, he eventually learns that his simple home has been cursed by an unknown evil. Henry has no choice but to enter portals leading to alternate worlds to find out the truth behind his cursed apartment. Of course, in true Silent Hill fashion, these alternate dimensions are filled with plenty of fog, very few lights, freakish creatures (some of them can attack through walls) and mysterious characters whose intentions are not always clear.
Additional details on Silent Hill 4 are still a bit sparse, but we do know that for the first time, the perspective will alternate from first and third-person. It is unclear if players will be able to go into a first-person perspective on his or her with a push of a button, or if the game will do it on its own. Also, Silent Hill 4 will take place in motels, forests, and prisons.
We'll have more information on "Silent Hill 4: The Room" when Konami releases it. In the meantime, check out all 17 screenshots that we have posted thus far.
