Crazy Taxi
By: Rory on May 19, 2001

Woohoo! A great game indeed. Not to say that Crazy Taxi doesn't have its rough spots but it is still a blast to play. First the good then the bad.

THE GOOD: Crazy Taxi is one of the most additive racers ever produced. You are one of four taxi drivers, each with different cabs, who has to do a lot of business in just one day. You look for customers with dollar signs above their heads. The dollar signs have letters corresponding to their difficulty, green = easy, red = hard. As Axel, B.D. Joe, Gena, or Gus; you are supposed to pick up the customers and drive them as crazy as you can and drop them off at their destinations.

Of course, it's not as easy as it sounds, because you have to deal with traffic, pedestrians, phone booths, and other obstacles that get in your way. This is part of the fun though, as you navigate your way through the city trying to find the best route to drop them off at the correct area. The gameplay is incredible with easy pick up and play controls, and easy understanding of the harder moves.

The graphics are also very good, although it has not been improved much since the arcade version. Of course these are really good graphics in which you can see the passengers reactions to your moves as well as your drivers reactions to the actions you make. In one instance, the driver gives the passenger a high five. On the way to greatness.

THE BAD: Although there is nothing significant that should prevent you from buying this title, there are some things that you may want to know about. First of all, in some fast paced situations the frame rate will slip and will slowdown for a second then pick back up with the fast paced action. Also, there are only two levels of gameplay. While there is an unlimited amount of customers, you may get tired from driving the same courses. In order to make things more interesting, Sega has allowed much more interaction with the environments, such as, allowing you to drive on rooftops or launch wherever you want.

So this is a definite must buy, and when you do become aware of the problems and try avoiding them by having fun and trying different routes of travel - like through the harbor, you might find something waiting for you down there. Maybe a customer. I guess you will have to find out on your own. Go on and get the game, RIGHT NOW!

Overall Score: 9 out of 10
